Surgery description
The term of plastic surgery comprises a number of ***notions such as:
- Aesthetic surgery - including operative procedures improving the patient's appearance. Most frequently they are procedures involving the skin, e.g. due to its flaccidity in the eyelids, the face and the neck or the subcutaneous fatty tissue where it is possible to improve the patient's body figure by means of sucking away the disfiguring fat.
- Reconstructive surgery - involving the reconstruction of organs lost as a result of an injury or disease, e.g. the breasts, the ears, the nose etc.
- Constructive surgery - involving the construction of organs that were not formed in the foetal period as a result of congenital anomalies, concerning e.g. the ear or the breasts.
- Repair surgery - involving the reconstruction of the function or the shape of such structures as nerves, tendons, normal skin within a scar etc.
Surgical procedures are inevitably associated with an intervention in the tissues with a scalpel, that is the infliction of an injury to the skin with all its consequences such as blood loss, entry of infection or the appropriate healing process with the subsequent, the slightest possible, scar formation. The art of plastic surgery consists in making such an incision with a scalpel that the scar could be invisible.
